Celebrating a year of extended life and amazing grace – Gerhardus & Leske
This is a very special BLOG…to bring God all the glory!
I did Gerhardus and Leske’s wedding photography in April 2004…15 years ago and that is exactly the last time we had contact. Unfortunately Gerhardus struggled a lot with very poor kidney functioning…it deteriorated to such an extent that there was no hope unless a kidney transplant could be done, with suitable donor off course. By God’s grace, Leske was suitable donor, but had to loose a lot of weight to be able to sacrifice one of her kidneys. Last year she achieved the weight and health needed for the surgery and today exactly, a year ago, on the 27th of July 2018, their surgery were scheduled…for Leske to give one of her kidneys to Gerhardus. God’s timing is always perfect, because as Gerhardus was entering theater for the transplant, his own kidneys started to fail completely, hitting a creatinine level of 600, compared to the normal serum creatinine range of 0.7–1.3 mL/min in men.
The very difficult thing was that they didn’t have any guarantee that the transplant would be successful and that Gerhardus’ body would be able to adjust to the new kidney and function well again. It was a matter of life and death for them. With no donor or successful transplant, Gerhardus’ life on earth was over. BUT God, in His sovereign plan for them, extended grace on his life and their companionship relationship! So for a person to be able to safely say that his kidney transplant was successful, a year of good kidney functioning and normal body health is needed. And this is exactly what Gerhardus and Leske can celebrate today! Praise God for His grace…this couple’s radiance and gratitude is overwhelming and such a blessing to capture!
Gerhardus and Leske, thank you for making contact with me again and allowing me to share in this amazing testimony you have. May God continue to use your testimony to help others in need. Lots of love, Lucinda
