Their dreams of a Kalahari wedding – Roelof & Elzaan

We love to cover weddings in unique and different settings and we definitely enjoy the adventure around the unexpected.  As we didn’t know what to expect…never even been in the Kalahari!…we surely were blessed with an amazing experience.  Many guests were transported by Mini Tour Busses and some were flown in (very greatful for the convenience).  And I guess every single person who arrived on the beautiful farm, Barrange, was surprised by it’s beauty…a beauty continuously unfolding throughout the weekend!  Allow me to share this beauty in all it’s facets.

Apart from the fact that Elzaan’s parents have nurtured and built up this farm over years, from nothing to a well-known jewel in the Kalahari, they went all out to give the farm a make-over…almost like you would prepare a bride to look at her best on her wedding day!  Both Roelof & Elzaan’s parents come from the Kalahari and it was evident that this piece of Africa flows deep in their veins.  And then, when you arrive by plane in this 5 star setting – in the middle of nowhere! – you are not treated like a king, but welcomed warmly by the unpretentious lifestyle of the Kalahari people. For us as service providers, the weekend started off on very unfamiliar territory, but soon metamorphed into the most amazing weekend of teamwork, servantship and a feel of one big happy family preparing and celebrating…so much so, that it was really difficult to say goodbye!  I think all of us involved in this weekend, kind of struggled to get back into our usual day to day lives…our hearts warmly affected!

Back home if people would ask what left the great impression, I can easily say the unique beauty of the Kalahari!  But then, I will pause and my heart will say, the humility and serving hearts of these two families.  Roelof & Elzaan (and your families!), thank you for an unforgettable weekend spent with you.  It was such a humbling experience to be served by you with so much love and care and in return, such a blessing to could have served you with what we do…to experience your deeply rooted love for each other.  In our memories, you will always be the sparkle in the Kalahari diamond.

To serve one another is an honour, but to serve for God’s glory, is truly a humble journey filled with endless joy.  As it is written in 1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.”

Lots of love, Lucinda & Petrus
